Correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think there has ever been a moment in history where so much travesty has existed at once. War/genocide has unfortunately has been around since humans could speak but I don’t think there has been a time where these atrocities have coincided with the collapse of the environment. A good number of americans don’t even turn on the news due to the continuance doom that grows each and every day. So the question then becomes, what do we do? I have no fucking clue. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this would be my adult life, and I damn sure did not have preparation for this. All my parents tell me to do is to have hope, because really what more is there to do?
I have found any silver lining it is that the world has ended numerous times. Mother Earth has witness extinction event after another and by the power that is her glory life has found a way to bloom again. I am firm believer in the story of the Phoenix. A being of death and rebirth. A reminder that for life to flourish, the previous existence must die. So that is what must happens. The world we knew, the system ruled by the principles of colonization must and is dying. It might not feel like it, but history shows us that empires tighten their grip and become more malefic when their end is on the horizon.
However, death is rarely ever peaceful. Afterall it is the anti-thesis of life. Where warmth and joy are replaced by coldness and absence. Which I can say is a mutual feeling for most of society. A lost of the sense of self, a missing purpose, a mundane cloud that hangs over one’s head everyday. In a way we are experiencing death, the coldness and absence of feeling creeps on us more and more. We constantly wonder how to make it through each day and calculate what purchase or manifestation will bring us back that spark. At least for me. I have come to a conclusion that in death, you must accept it. That what once was will never come to pass again.
I have written about it before that dreaming is dead because the american dream were fed was in illusion. Experiencing the collapsing structures that once held this image are falling down. Leaving a nothingness in it’s absence. But where is this nothing there is a blank canvas. A brand new start for a new picture. One that may or may not require to be framed. The Harlem Renaissance was sprung in the midst of the great depression.
I still don’t know how we can get through this but I was inspired by a reel today. The creator said they never imagined what they wanted to be growing up. The only aspiration that came to mind was to be content and at peace. Maybe that is the new dream we are supposed to envision. Happiness without a given form. Peace that is found by exploring any path ahead and smelling the roses along the way. Perhaps in retaliation to the system. We don’t put our hopes on a specific end goal. But rather we focus on what it is in front of us and how that makes us happy. Through being with one another and admiring the world that Mother Gaia has allowed us to live. Hence why at least for my queer community, the dance floor is far from dead. It is one of the few places of solace. To. enjoy a party you must be in the moment and take it all in. Experiencing a room full of black and brown queers smile is a dream come true.
We must not place our hopes into a broken system but must bring it in back into ourselves. But these are just my thoughts and I am only a mere human who believes hope as the universal answer.
