Broke Luxury

A collection inspired by rediscovery

It’s been a while but like any true good art I took time to really reflect before I began to create. I reached a block for a couple months, I rarely made any pieces or felt the need to. I had to ask myself, why did I even begin to make jewerly in the first place?

A simple question right? Yet the answer to this rattled my brain and confidence for weeks on end because I did not know. I lost sight of why I created. So I had to go back to square one and discover a new meaning. Now I’ll spare all the details of the intensive shadow work and crying sessions I had to undergo. The destination brought me back to where all dive deep dives of the mind end up, my childhood.

My inner child needed to speak as that’s who really is the artist inside of me. I was creative, imaginative and most importantly bodacious. There is nothing that would stop little kid me from being themselves. I had ensured through my vexed tongue that no one would keep my light from shining. I had to be seen through my flair and style.

So that brings me to this collection. Ever since I was a child I always wanted to embellished with blinding jewels like the ones royalty wore. Not because I wanted to be rich but because the radiance of the stones mirrored how I saw myself. Yet being in my 20’s the reality of creating a crown of rubies and diamonds is out of my grasp.

But this doesn’t mean still cannot fulfill my fantasy, I just have to do so in my own way. Regardless if the gems and stones I wear are cheap and a dime dozen, it is the intention and meaning that gives it the glow. I also realized while creating that it makes no sense that we uphold a diamond as the most precious gem but others like Moonstone won’t receive the same praise. In my eyes they’re both to be admired and respected. Our beautiful Mother Earth created these wonderful pieces of rock for us to behold. She didn’t have to make them colorful and textured, but she did! The price of the stone should not determine how we view its beauty! Which is what I wanted to convey with these pieces. We can feel luxurious in what we create and wear regardless of it cost $10 or $1000. Any gift from Gaia is priceless.
